I have been in love with photography since late 2006. Since then, my work has spanned over many genres for both personal and professional.
I am most known for my equine, canine and portraiture work.

I love everything about photography, and I love to expand and learn and try new things constantly.

Maybe I’ll get back in to doggy photography some

Maybe I’ll get back in to doggy photography someday. I really enjoyed having a studio space in the basement of our house in Kansas. I started out with dog portraits and that went really great, but then I really wanted to challenge myself with newborn photography so we converted the studio for that.
After we moved to the D.C area, I decided to take a hiatus from paid photography work for awhile because we decided to live on base, and that’s when I started selling crystals. Now that that business is slowing down and we will be moving again (this year actually), I’d like to start thinking about starting a studio again someday.

I spent the summers at my grandparent’s house during college in Spokane Valley, WA. I’d often go out driving when I wasn’t working, looking for things to photograph. I’ve always preferred to photograph living beings and was usually on the hunt for cows or horses.
I will never forget the joy and excitement I felt stumbling upon this gorgeous green pasture with several gray Arabians hanging out in it, only maybe a 20 minute drive from my grandparent’s house. I went back many times over a couple year span, but no time was as magical as the first when everything was green and so perfect.

I lived in Bozeman, Montana in my early twenties for just a few months. I worked at a hotel and one day while talking to a co-worker, he asked what kind of stuff I was in to and I said, “photographing horses!” He then said he actually owned some horses and I was welcome to go photograph them.
My roommate and I went out to his property and I had a great time taking some snapshots. But since it was overcast and winter I wasn’t really getting anything exciting. As we were leaving, we heard this sound behind us like glass breaking. I went to investigate and two horses were following us through the wooded area of the pasture and the sound was the ice of the frozen creek breaking as they walked through it.
The horses stopped and stared at me for a few before both dropping their heads to take a drink of the water that was now free from the ice. I was very excited about these photos and it made the trip worth it.

I always wish I would have had a full bushel of peacock feathers for this photograph. Looking over these portraits I took over a decade ago makes me want to get back in to making portraits! Just need some studio space and some time 😂

Beautiful little lady I photographed outdoors back

Beautiful little lady I photographed outdoors back in Kansas. My husband and I found the perfect field for outdoor portraits and we lugged around a huge battery operated strobe to give my subjects a little bump of light while retaining the background.
I highly recommend to every portrait photographer to use an off camera flash for their sessions. When done right it will set your work apart.
