Today we visited the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington D.C. The drive out there from base was gorgeous once you get past the city! I guess the city is it’s own kind of beautiful, but up where we were was gorgeous with lots of trees and tunnels and bridges.
The zoo itself was honestly quite underwhelming, but I have been to some really amazing zoos around the country so it’s hard not to compare. The Smithsonian Zoo does have lots of cool animals, and some I have never seen, like an Anaconda and the best part, a Panda! Also they have a really cool reptile that looks like an alligator (maybe they are related?) called a Gharial. It has a super skinny face and an alligator body. I wish I could have gotten a better angle on it but I did get a photo!
They had a face painting booth so Raelynn got a really cool pink butterfly painted on her face, and we had lunch there which was pretty much overpriced high school cafeteria food, lol.
I didn’t take many photos, but here are the ones I did take.
Enjoy! Now on to packing for our camping trip tomorrow!
